Every mommy wants to do everything perfectly during her pregnancy to give her baby the best headstart possible in life. This is why I purchased Bellybuds through Amazon after much research on all the contraptions that allow your baby to listen to music in the womb. I’m not sure if they really do work in terms of enhancing mental development since there’s no definitive research proving or disproving that playing music to the baby in the womb does make a difference later in life. But I figure it couldn’t hurt and besides, she seems to like it, well at least that’s how I interpret all her kicking and thumping around whenever I play some music. Our baby listens to baby Mozart and nursery rhymes, you can get CDs in any Odyssey or SM for around 100-300 Php for a compilation. We bought our CDs in Odyssey Greenbelt 1 and SM Makati.

Bellybuds come with a pouch, additional adhesive rings, silicon covers, and an audio splitter so you can listen to your baby’s music too.

Bellybuds, neoprene storage pouch, audio splitter

Pros: Quick, convenient way for baby to listen to music no matter where you are. Just plug them into your iPod, iPhone or computer and you’re good to go. When you’re done, the pouch slips easily into your purse! I find these less conspicuous than the music belts that I’ve seen online. Adhesives allow the Bellybuds to stick easily to your tummy but I prefer to use them under my maternity pants to keep them in place instead.

Cons: You have to change the adhesives every now and then and refills cost extra. But you don’t really need to buy them if you secure them with your maternity pants. Also, don’t lose the white peanut shaped thing that the Bellybuds are mounted on or you won’t have any place to store them without damaging the adhesives. Here’s a picture of the adhesive portion of the Bellybuds:

All in all, I highly recommend them for any expectant mommy. We are hoping that she turns from her current footling breech position to cephalic before she’s ready to come out. A lot of the reviews online say that playing music is effective in helping a breech baby to turn since babies apparently try to move their heads towards the music. I’m skeptical but hopefully it works!

Bellybuds for my Baby Bump

We are past the half way mark and our little machiaOTTo is doing just great. Below is a picture from our 20 week ultrasound. We were so amazed getting to see the baby’s heart, brain, kidneys, bladder, umbilical cord and even it’s feet. It is truly a blessing to see what technology and biology can do.
And 20 week also means that the baby’s hearing has developed so it can now hear sounds outside the womb. This got me to thinking about playing some music for our baby. Now of course the baby can jam along with me during a car ride, but what about some music directed toward the baby and for the direct benefit of the baby. Well I got to looking and thinking and was thrilled to get a pair of Bellybuds to review.

Just like earbuds are for you to help listen to your ipod or MP3 player; bellybuds are designed for your baby to listen to music while in the womb. The bellybuds are designed for sound to reach the womb at a safe level, yet dampen the sound so it can’t be heard by you or others around you. There is an adhesive on the bellybuds to attach right to your belly, and as you can see in the picture below they can be worn discreetly under your clothes so no one will know your baby is boogieing away.

After use the bellybuds can be removed painlessly (I’ve had bandaids hurt worse than these do) and returned to a card they come with to keep the adhesive fresh until next time. The pack also came with some replacement adhesives for multiple uses and you can purchase more on the bellybuds website. (And yes, I can’t believe I am showing you my pregnant belly on this blog, but I did want you can see how the bellybuds fit.)

Another feature that come with the belly buds is a Audio Splinter. (pictured below) This is an extra piece that allows you to hook up your own earbuds to the sound outlet so you can ear and baby can hear at the exact same time. I really liked this feature and enjoy knowing exactly what our baby is hearing while they hear it. Here I hooked the bellybuds up to a diskman. Bellybuds has a voice share option on their website and I found this to be helpful in that it allows you to record your voice and then download it and burn it on a CD. Not that baby needs to hear my voice anymore than it already does all day long, but now it can hear Ott, E’s voice. You could also have other family members record their message, read it a book or tell it a story and they could e-mail the message to you for download and baby can become familiar with every ones voices.

Or like I mentioned earlier you can always plug it into your ipod or MP3 Player and tuck it inside your pocket while you do other work during the day. In general they say not to use the bellybuds for more than one hour at a time and only about 3 days a week.

I started out with only 15 minutes the first time and then worked my way up in 15 minutes intervals to the full hour. I have been playing classical music mostly, but every now and then I play it the Purdue Fight Song (Boiler Up!) along with some country and classic rock favorites.

So what songs would you select for your baby to listen to????

Big thanks to Bellybuds for sending me this pair to review on my blog. You can purchase a pair for yourself or for someone you know who is expecting on their website. You can also find them on facebook and twitter (@bellybuds).

Please note while Bellybuds did give me this sample of their product to review; all thoughts, opinions and photos shared on this blog post are my own.

MWFB: Bellybuds Review

Thanks to my reading, research, and local Pregnancy Center, I know that stimulating baby through voice, sound, and music is very important for bonding and beneficial to their development. B and I talk to baby girl every day to bond with her and baby girl really does seem to respond to our voices. She even seems to respond and like certain types of music more than others that we play for her (sometimes it seems like she is dancing to the beat…lol); however, it isn’t always convenient to crank up the radio or stereo for her to listen and feel the vibrations. That is why I love the idea behind Bellybuds Bellyphones(think “ear buds” for your belly).

My Thoughts!
The Bellybuds allow me to conveniently and easily play music for baby girl, without having to blast the speakers of our stereo. All I have to do is peel the bellyphones off of their storing “dock”, attach them to my belly, plug the audio jack into my iPod (or any other digital music player), and let the music play. I love that I even have the option of listening to the music with baby girl by attaching the audio splitter (included with your purchase) and my own ear buds, which is a great bonding experience and how I usually use my bellybuds.

I also love that Bellybuds can be used to introduce baby to the voices and messages of loved ones that are far away during your pregnancy. I am planning on using bellybuds to introduce baby girl to the voice of her Grandma C, who lives in Florida, as soon I get a recorded message from her.

Below are photos of me using my Bellybuds and checking out one of my pregnancy books (@ 29 weeks pregnant) :

About Bellybuds

“If you ask Curtis Williams (creator and co-founder), the inspiration for bellybuds happened during the 2nd trimester of his wife’s pregnancy with their first child.
“We had read that playing prenatal music to the womb was beneficial – so right around the fifth month, my wife began placing her ipod earbuds on her belly and playing classical music for our daughter. The only problem was that in order to do that, she had to lie on her back and couldn’t move – which is a lot to ask of my multi-tasking wife. It seemed like there was a possibility for something more convenient.”
After searching the internet and finding nothing designed specifically for the playing of prenatal music or other sounds from a digital music player to a developing baby in the womb, Curtis decided to pursue the idea. he contacted a friend who was a product designer to help design and engineer the piece. Initially, he asked him to help make a one of a kind product for his wife, but as they worked on the idea and talked about it with others, Curtis realized that the concept might have a broader appeal. That’s when the endeavor began in earnest to create bellybuds.”
Read more about the history of Bellybuds HERE.

For my review, I was graciously sent the Bellybuds – Pregnancy Bellyphones. This allows music to play for the baby inside of the womb. I’ve heard that listening to classical music can stimulate the unborn baby’s brain before, but not anything like this! This is revolutionary! You don’t have to play JUST classical music. You can have the sound of a deployed husband or a family member far away be delivered to your bundle of joy.

The speakers are wearable for moms-to-be that desire to play music and sounds to a developing child in the womb. The original bellybuds bellyphones audio system plug into any standard digital music device and are specially designed to adhere gently to varying curvature of a pregnant belly.

Whether worn discretely beneath clothing or in full view with an optional pair of decorative buddons speaker covers, bellybuds are are a convenient and effective option for playing audio to the womb.

The package includes:

1 set of bellybuds bellyphones

1 bellyphones dock

4 sets of hydrogel adhesive rings

1 audio splitter

1 set of bellybuds buddons

1 neoprene storage pouch

The Bellybuds bellyphones would make a thoughtful gift to any mommy-to-be! If you’re looking for a UNIQUE baby shower gift, why not give that special lady this awesome product? I can’t wait to actually use this with baby number two!

Purchase It:

BELLYBUDS REVIEW

Belly Buds are a brand new, safe and convenient option for prenatal bonding with your baby.
Belly Buds special speakers gently adhere to the belly and play directly into the womb, so your developing baby can hear prenatal music, voices, soothing sounds, or whatever you like!

Belly Buds come attached to a 3.5 mm standard audio jack that is compatible with the iPod as well as most other digital audio devices, and the high quality Y Splitter allows the option for simultaneous listening. I unfortunately didn’t get a Y Splitter in my package, so I wasn’t able to try this out, but without being able to listen to the same thing Emmitt was hearing, I felt disconnected, so I highly suggest making sure you get a Y Splitter too.

Belly Buds have a fixed safe maximum volume so you won’t have to worry about turning them up too loud. Skin-safe, disposable, hydrogel adhesive rings secure the Belly Buds to the ever changing curves of your pregnant baby bump!

If you are a music lover, and your baby responds to music when played, or voices when heard, I highly suggest Belly Buds!Emmitt has a preference to anything with a fast beat! It only takes a few minutes of the Belly Buds on my tummy before he starts a kicking!I also found that my adhesive rings lasted for about 2 weeks, using them every other day. So if you plan to use this often, make sure you get extra rings!

BellyBuds for Baby and Me!

By Tilley

When I was pregnant the first time my regular routine was to play music in my car really loud during my commutes to and from work so that my unborn son could get the benefit of not only hearing the latest and greatest (and yes, quite a bit of 80’s) music, but he also got to hear his mommy sing her little heart out each day. These days, however, my new little one can get all the benefits of hearing music in utero, without being tortured by my loud off-key singing, thanks to BellyBuds!

BellyBuds are specially designed “headphones” that stick to your belly allowing your baby to hear music played through the headphone jack on your portable mp3 device. The sample pack that the BellyBuds folks were kind enoough to send for this review come with Buddons™ attachments that work to dampen the external sound. The sound dampening effect is handy in keeping the music limited to playing for baby instead of the whole room.

What I loved about the BellyBuds is that they use a hydrogel adhesive that sticks gently to my skin, allowing me to move around with the BellyBuds on and not worry too much about them falling off like traditional headphones would. The benefit of this is that I even when I’m chasing my older son around trying to stop him from destroying, well, everything, I didn’t have to worry about the BellyBuds falling off mid-session. That said, I’ll probably need to buy replacement adhesives since my extra-lotioned belly has reduced the effectiveness of the ones that came with the sample pack rather quickly.

Of course, more often than not I found that having a toddler in the house limits the amount of time I can spend using the BellyBuds. My son is just so curious that he is always trying to pull the BellyBuds off my belly! Either that or he wants to play with my mp3 player. To avoid this I sometimes use the BellyBuds at the end of the day while watching tv in bed. Of course, get me in a nice comfy bed and the first thing I do is fall asleep! At least my little baby has a chance to enjoy the music while I’m napping!

And speaking of my little one, it’s hard to tell if the music is having any effect. I try to use the BellyBuds while the baby is awake, but since our schedules rarely match I wouldn’t be surprised if I was playing music while he/she is asleep because I don’t get much kicking or activity while the music is playing. I like to think that the music is so soothing that all he/she wants to do while the music plays it to just hang around and listen to the mellow tunes. I don’t know if that’s actually the case but I like knowing that I’m expanding my baby’s musical repertoire by exposing him/her to new and interesting sounds.

BellyBuds are available for purchase online for $49.99 US. Extra hydrogel adhesive packs can be purchased for $2.99 US a pack.

Thanks for the wonderful review spiltmilkmoms.com!!
